Express Entry is not a visa. It is an online pool that manages applications for three economic permanent residence programs at once:

[[FSW|Federal Skilled Worker Program — the Express Entry stream for skilled workers with foreign work experience. The one most Nigerians applying from home use]] — Federal Skilled Worker, for skilled foreign work experience. The one you'll most likely use.
CEC — Canadian Experience Class, for people who already worked in Canada.
FST — Federal Skilled Trades, for qualified tradespeople.

Here is what makes it unique in this whole catalogue: you do not need an employer or a job offer to enter. You build a profile yourself, from Lagos or Abuja. Canada gives you a [[CRS|Comprehensive Ranking System — the points score, out of 1,200, that ranks everyone in the Express Entry pool. Draws invite the highest scorers]] score out of 1,200, and every few weeks it runs a draw, inviting the highest-scoring candidates to apply for PR.

That independence is the prize. No sponsor to find, no employer to trust, no one who can hold a permit over you. The whole game is (1) getting into the pool, and (2) scoring high enough to be invited. Part 1 is step one; Part 2 is step two.

It is also permanent residence from day one — not a temporary work permit. That is why the bar is real, and why the rest of this route is honest about how high it is.
